Privacy Policy
Effective September 25, 2026
Gunns in America is a family history archive. It runs no advertising, sets no tracking cookies, and sells nothing about its visitors. This page explains the small amount of information the site does handle, and how the archive treats information about people — living and dead.
Who We Are
GunnsinAmerica.org is published by WriteNow.Media and maintained by John Paul Lumpp. The companion book, The Gunns in America, is published under Wepawaug Press, an imprint of WriteNow.Media. In this policy, “we” and “the project” mean WriteNow.Media and the site’s maintainer.
What the Site Does Not Do
- It sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts.
- It has no user accounts or log-ins.
- It does not sell, rent, or trade personal information to anyone.
Information You Send Us
Family Recollections
The Share a Recollection form asks for your name, email address, relationship to the family, a title, your story, and whether you hold documents or photographs. We use it to review your contribution, follow up with questions, and — with the permission you give on the form — publish it on this site, credited as you indicate. Your email address is never published.
Book updates
The sign-up on the Book page asks for your email address and, optionally, your name. We use them only to send news about The Gunns in America and its publication. You can ask to be removed at any time.
Correspondence
If you write to us directly, we keep the message as part of the project’s research correspondence so we can reply and, where relevant, cite what you shared. We do not publish private correspondence without permission.
Services That Support the Site
The site is a set of static pages. A few outside services handle hosting, fonts, and forms, and each receives limited technical information — typically your IP address and browser details — when your browser contacts it:
- GitHub Pages hosts the site and may keep standard server logs. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
- Google Fonts serves the site’s typefaces. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Formspree receives form submissions and delivers them to us by email. See the Formspree Privacy Policy.
Links to Patreon, Substack, YouTube, and social media take you to sites with their own privacy practices. We receive no information from them about your visit to this site.
Information About Family Members
The archive publishes names, dates, places, and relationships drawn from public records, published genealogies, and family papers. Most of it concerns people who died generations ago. Where records touch people who may still be living, we work to limit what appears.
If you or a living relative appear anywhere on this site and you want details corrected, restricted, or removed, write to editor@gunnsinamerica.org. No explanation is required. We act on requests about living people promptly and do not restore removed details without permission.
Your Choices
- Ask for a copy of what you have sent us.
- Ask us to correct or remove a published contribution.
- Ask to be removed from the book-updates list.
- Ask us to correct, restrict, or remove information about you or a living relative.
Send any request to editor@gunnsinamerica.org. We aim to respond within 30 days. Material already printed — in the book, for example — cannot be recalled, but it will be corrected in later editions.
How Long We Keep Information
Recollections and correspondence are kept as part of the project’s research record until you ask us to remove them. Book-update addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or the list is retired.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Significant changes affecting information you have already sent us will not apply to that information without your consent.
