Terms of Use
Effective September 25, 2026
These terms govern your use of GunnsinAmerica.org. By using the site, you agree to them. They are written to protect the research and the people who contribute to it, not to restrict honest use of family history.
About the Site
GunnsinAmerica.org is published by WriteNow.Media. It is the companion archive to The Gunns in America, published under Wepawaug Press, an imprint of WriteNow.Media. The site is provided free of charge for personal, family, educational, and research use.
Copyright
Unless otherwise noted, the original writing, research, annotations, database compilation, photography, and design on this site are © WriteNow.Media. All rights reserved.
Historical documents in the public domain remain in the public domain. Our transcriptions and commentary do not limit anyone’s right to use the underlying document. Images supplied by libraries, archives, historical societies, and private collections are credited where they appear and remain subject to those holders’ terms.

Family Contributions
Recollections, documents, and photographs submitted through the site remain yours. By submitting them, you:
- Grant WriteNow.Media a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, display, and archive your contribution on GunnsinAmerica.org, credited as you indicate, and to edit it for length, clarity, and accuracy.
- Confirm that you have the right to share the material, and that it does not disclose private information about living people without their consent.
Use of a contribution in the book, on Substack, in video or audio, or in any other publication requires your separate permission. We may decline or remove any submission. You may ask us to remove your contribution from the site at any time.
Accuracy of Information
The project follows an evidence-first standard: claims cite their sources, and hypotheses are labeled as hypotheses. Genealogical research is still provisional. Records conflict, transcriptions err, and new evidence changes conclusions.
Information here is offered for historical and genealogical research, not as legal, medical, or professional advice. Verify important conclusions against primary sources. Corrections are welcome at editor@gunnsinamerica.org.
Acceptable Use
Do not attempt to access restricted areas of the site, interfere with its operation, submit spam or unlawful material through its forms, or misrepresent your identity or your relationship to the family.
Outside Links
The site links to other websites, including archives, libraries, Patreon, Substack, and social media. We are not responsible for their content or practices.
Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
The site and its content are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, WriteNow.Media, Wepawaug Press, and the project’s maintainer are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the site or reliance on its content.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
Changes to These Terms
We may revise these terms. The current version is always posted here with its effective date. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
